Sometimes it’s hard to tell if you’re genuinely unhappy with your job or if you’re just feeling burnt out.

That is why in today’s post, I will be sharing the signs that can make you tell if you’re truly not happy at work.

Now if you’re feeling bad for being confused on whether you’re unhappy or not with your job, DON’T! So many people go through this and asks this question.

Really and truly everyone always likes to ask for signs whether they’re asking google, god, the universe, family, friends etc…

We all find comfort in reading articles like this because we all want clarification and we all find comfort when others understand how we feel.

I myself have gone through the headaches of asking my self a million times over whether I should leave a job or not and asking myself if the job is making me unhappy or am I just a quitter…

It’s not easy dealing with a situation like this because finding our career path and purpose in life is important to many of us and when we aren’t necessarily happy with a job and haven’t found our purpose yet, we feel like we’re failing as human beings.

Sometimes we stick with a job that we think are making us happy because we’re forcing ourself to love something we don’t due to many reasons but by doing that we get to a point where we are confused whether we are genuinely happy or if it was a feeling we forcefully created to get by life…

But hopefully these signs will help you figure out if you’re truly unhappy at work…

It’s Hard to get up in the mornings:

signs you're not happy at work

When we’re working jobs that don’t make us happy it’s natural to hate mornings and to struggle getting out of bed to start the day. Of course not everyone is a morning person and there are people that simply just cant deal with waking up early and getting out of bed but another reason that mornings can be twice as hard, is because maybe you’re not looking forward for what the day brings with your job.

It’s not fun getting up in the morning and already getting overwhelmed for what the day brings you because you know the things you have to do at work doesn’t bring you joy or excitement.

Whether you are not looking forward to work with people you work with, or you’re not looking forward for the tasks you have to do or maybe you’re not looking forward to talking to customers, thinking about all of it when you wake up just makes you miserable and not excited for the day.

When you’re genuinely happy with the job, you wake up in the mornings much lighter and getting out of bed becomes easy because regardless if you’re tired or not, you know the day will consist of doing things you love and so you’re looking forward to starting the day rather than not wanting to start the day at all.

Of course even with a job you love you can feel burnt out during some days where you just don’t feel like doing anything. But there’s a huge difference between feeling burnt out some days and feeling miserable every single day.

When it comes to feeling burnt out, rest and even maybe a little vacation can make you feel refreshed and excited to work again but if you already took some time off and work still feels like it’s making you miserable more and more each day, maybe it’s because your job is not making you happy anymore.

With burn outs, you can still have love for your job but just need little breaks here and there to get through. However if you’re dealing with a burn out and not happy with your job too, that can be harder to deal with because even taking rests or vacations won’t solve the issue because you’re returning to an environment that brings you sadness instead of joy.

you stop caring:

signs you're not happy at work

The day you stop caring about your job is the day you realize something is wrong. You start to question as to why you don’t feel as motivated, energized or inspired anymore and it’s because the job doesn’t make you happy anymore.

Like many of us at the beginning stage of a new job, we are so excited to learn and so excited to work. Everyday we try to learn as much as we can to become experts at what we do. Every little thing we see that needs improvement we work on it.

At the early stages we see potential and a future with this job which gives us the motivation to keep going because we know this is a job we want to stay in forever and a job where we want to grow in.

We would do as much as we can to maintain this job. We will go above and beyond to make sure we perform well in this job.

For those who are genuinely happy with the job and for those who are meant to follow this path in life, this will be the reality for them everyday. Because of the sincere passion they have for the job they will keep going even when things are hard because they know its worth it for them.

When you are happy and passionate with what you’re doing, there’s never a day where you don’t want to make any improvements.

But for those who are not happy with the job and for those who are not meant to follow this path, it’s likely that at any given moment the person will loose interest towards the job. It’s the point where they realize the job is not for them and there could be many factors to why it’s not for them but only they would know why…

However, when a person realizes that they prefer doing something else and that this job is something they don’t want to do forever, they will care less about the job because they no longer see a future with the job.

Once you no longer picture this job in your future then it’s bound to happen that you will be less motivated to keep going and less motivated to work on improving because simply you see no outcome to all of it.

Not caring for a job because you envision yourself doing something else is clear sign you’re not happy with your job.

You compare yourself to others:

signs you're not happy at work

When you’re not happy with your job it can be easy to constantly compare your life to others.

Working a job you don’t love results in often wishing you were doing something you do love and when you see people doing that, it’s hard to not feel jealous.

A lot of the times when people aren’t doing something they’re passionate about they imagine on a daily basis on what it would be like to be doing so and imagine how much happier they would be if they were following their passion instead of working a job that makes then feel drained.

As soon as you start wishing to have a different life other than yours then that’s a clear sign that you are definitely not happy with your job.

Those who are genuinely happy and content with a job don’t compare themselves to other people’s lifestyles because they are confident in themselves and their career. They know that they’re doing something they’re passionate about so they don’t feel the need to compare and wish to be somebody they’re not.

They are simply just happy with themselves.

Often when you are wishing to be somebody else and wishing to have someone else’s lifestyle, it is because you’re not happy with yourself and your current lifestyle.

Lack of excitement:

signs you're not happy at work

How do you feel when your job offers you new projects at work?

Do you get excited to start something new with the company and look forward to going to work everyday because of the new tasks being given to you?

Or do you feel like it’s just more work for you to do that you don’t really feel like doing because you already feel like you’re doing too much?

Another sign that you can be unhappy at work is when you stop feeling excited when new projects or new learning opportunities come to you. This is most likely because you simply just don’t want to take on new projects because it’s something that’s just going to be added to your list of things that you’re not passionate about doing.

Someone who’s happy with their job would be thrilled for any new projects to take on because they want to do more and want to grow with the company but if you don’t see yourself wanting to grow with your job then maybe you’re just not that excited to be there anymore.

Having to force a smile:

signs you're not happy at work

Do you ever before going into work have to spend a bit of time to yourself to take a few deep breaths and to force a smile on your face before walking in so people can’t see that you’re not in the best mood?

If so then you’re most likely genuinely not happy with your current job.

Nothing should be forced. When we reach a point where we are forcing things, we are choosing to keep toxic things in our life that we are not suppose to keep because it stops us from finding our true path and stopping us from discovering what we really want to do.

If you’re having to pretend someone you’re not everyday to work, are you really happy there?

You deserve to genuinely feel happy.

Of course in certain situations we need to do what we have to do for a living and work certain jobs we don’t really like but you must learn to have a new mindset and believe that there is so much more opportunities out there that can make you happier yet still give you financial stability but if you keep telling yourself you will never find that, how will you ever?

Conclusion:

To conclude this post, it’s important to mention that regardless if you relate to the signs or not. You are the only one who will know truly what’s best for you. You are the only one who can tell if you’re truly unhappy.

With signs or no signs, trust what you really feel and trust what your gut is telling you.

If you’re not happy at your job it’s time to find happiness and how will you do that?

Well, that’s up to you. Explore and see what are the things that do make you happy.
