Today, I will be reviewing “Dupixent” a self-injection medication that helps treat mild-severe eczema. Dupixent can also be used to treat asthma.
As someone who has truly experienced a severe case of eczema and who has used Dupixent as one of the methods in treating my skin, I feel like it is important for me to share a review on dupixent for anyone who is looking to start it.
I know many of you have numerous of questions about this product and so I will try my best to include google’s most frequently asked questions about dupixent in this post…
Disclaimer: My answers are honest and genuine and are based ONLY from my own experience with Dupixent and not any one else! You must know that everyone’s body is different and everyone will have a different experience and journey with dupixent like any other medication or method of treatment.
My eczema story before dupixent:
Before I get into the questions, I think it’s important for me to briefly talk about how my skin was before starting dupixent to give you a better understanding as to why I started dupixent and to also give you a better understanding of what I was struggling with so that you can see how dupixent helped me with those struggles…
I don’t want to give my full eczema story because it is a long one but long story short before starting dupixent, I was struggling with TSW (Topical Steroid Withdrawal).
I had talked about this topic in a post that explains the symptoms of TSW in another post called “Topical Steroid Withdrawal Symptoms” and so click that link to learn more about TSW.
With experiencing TSW, it was like struggling with a more severed case of eczema.
My skin was oozing, burning, itchy, flaking and shedding 24/7. For 8 months straight I was incredibly uncomfortable and irritated. I was unable to do normal things such as shower, sleep, eat, work, exercise etc… because my body was in pain.
Along with that I had lost all my hair on both sides of my head.
During those 8 months, anything I tried wasn’t working for me.
Any natural remedies, ingredients or products didn’t work for me.
Even products that were used for eczema didn’t work me. Which had lead me to starting dupixent…
Question #1: How Fast Does Dupixent Work?
Let’s get started with my review on Dupixent…
Dupixent worked incredibly fast for me. Within one month, I saw a huge difference in my skin.
The first time I got the injection, I had to do it twice as a “loading dose”. Immediately after the injection, I of course didn’t see any physical changes to my skin but I did feel some relief after the injection when it came to the itch. However, later at night I started to feel very itchy again.
After a few days, the itch started to slowly subside. I was still extremely itchy where I was constantly feeling irritated and uncomfortable like before but I did notice as the days went by that the intense itchy feeling was slowly going away.
It was like the more days that gone by, the more of a difference I seen with the itch.
A few weeks passed by and I noticed that I was able to sleep better, eat better, work better and shower better. When I mean “better” I am talking about being able to do normal things without feeling constantly irritated or uncomfortable by doing the bare minimum.
Before it was hard for me to do things without itching the entire time. I would be eating with one hand but the other hand would have to be itching my body. If I was doing homework or studying, I would have to also use one hand to itch my body which would have me feeling super annoyed and irritated while working because the itch was distracting.
But after a few weeks, I was able to do things without having to itch my self the entire time. My focus was coming back and I was extremely exited to be able to do normal things again.
Most importantly, I was able to shower without being in absolute pain and I was able to sleep comfortably without the feeling of having to itch throughout the night. After a few weeks, I was finally able to sleep throughout the entire night and that hasn’t happened for 8 months straight.
In 1 month, I can say that’s when I seen a difference in my skin physically. I began to see that the red marks I had on my entire body was slowly fading away and my hair was growing back quickly. I was so grateful.
I would say after 3-6 months, that’s when I seen my skin completely transform to it’s normal state. My skin was clear from all rashes and it was crazy to see since my skin was covered with horrible rashes for months!
Of course my skin wasn’t perfect and crystal clear but to me it was the biggest transformation I seen with my skin. I was so happy to see my skin back to normal.
Therefore, Dupixent for me did work quite fast. Within one month I seen a difference within my skin and all the symptoms I was experiencing prior to dupixent had slowly disappeared. After 3-6 months my skin was back to normal. It’s important to note that with dupixent, you will see it slowly work it’s magic. Each day the results get better and better.
Question #2: how is my skin now after a year & 3 months of using dupixent?
My skin now is doing great! Like I said after 3-6 months, I’ve seen a huge difference where my skin went back to normal and my skin was clear from rashes. Also my symptoms of feeling intense itchiness, oozing of skin, burning sensation of skin, lack of sleep etc… went away.
After the 6 month period, I just kept taking the medication to keep my skin the same. To keep the symptoms away and to keep my skin clear.
There would still be times where I would get itchy here and there but it was just back to how a normal eczema rash would feel like, nothing intense.
As for the rashes, before when I would itch a spot on my body it will form a huge red rash on my skin almost immediately. But now whenever I itch a itchy spot, even after a full day of itching the spot it doesn’t form a huge rash. I would only notice small bumps but nothing worse than that.
Recently, I haven’t been taking dupixent because I don’t want to rely on the medication for the rest of my life. It’s been 1-2 months of me not taking dupixent and I did experience some nights where I was very itchy but it wasn’t like the itch I would experience before dupixent. Still itchy but nothing severe.
There was a moment a few weeks ago that I felt like I did need to take the medication again because I started to itch more frequently but I just kept going without taking dupixent and now I am completely okay. Of course I am itchy at times but I can still sleep, shower, work and do things normally which is the most important thing.
For the rashes, I don’t have anything too severe, only minor ones that clear up when putting a cream on it.
If you’re planning on stopping dupixent in the future, I would do it slowly and talk to your dermatologist about it. Before stopping dupixent, I skipped my dose sometimes to see how I would react.
The first time I skipped a dose, I went on for a few weeks without having dupixent in my system and I started to see rashes forming so I started taking it again for another few months until my skin went back to normal again…
Then I got off dupixent again 1-2 months ago and now I am doing much better with it and that’s why I am still proceeding not taking it to see if I will be okay on my own now.
Question #3: Dupixent Side Effects:
From my own personal experience with dupixent, I did not experience any side effect (from what I noticed).
I know there are people on the internet that say they experienced dry eyes, itchy eyes, eye swelling and weight gain…
However, I didn’t experience anything like that after starting dupixent.
But again everyone’s body is different so this will differ on the person.
Dupixent Asthma Reviews:
Now this is not necessarily a question but some of you may be curious as to how dupixent works for those who suffer with asthma. You may not be planning to take dupixent for asthma (or maybe you are) but most people who suffer with eczema also suffer with asthma…
I myself have also struggled with asthma growing up. It was bad when I was younger like most people, having to stay in the hospital from time to time due to asthma attacks but as I got older my asthma got less severe.
However, before I started dupixent I had some nights throughout the year where my breathing would keep me up at night and I would have to take my puffer…
I noticed after I started dupixent, I haven’t had a night like that. My asthma is something that hasn’t been an issue for me ever since starting dupixent.
Dupixent Before and after:
As you can see my eczema/TSW was all over my entire leg but these rashes were actually everywhere else on my body. From head to toe, I had rashes that looked like this.
After 1 month of starting dupixent my rashes started to slowly clear up until I reached my 6 month period where I pretty much had clear skin as shown in the “after” picture.
Final words on my review on dupixent:
To sum this post all up, I only have good thoughts about Dupixent and it was something that worked incredibly well for me.
It was the only medication for me that was helpful to my skin and that made a huge difference to my skin.
I was quite shocked on how fast all the symptoms subsided and it was the only medication to give me relief.
Without dupixent, my skin probably would’ve taken a long time to get back to normal.
There’s many things I can still talk about dupixent and so if you have any questions about dupixent please leave a comment down below or send an email to @saranelle101@gmail.com!
